Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people pay for royalty-free music?

  • Because the person or company that is buying the music doesn’t want to attribute the artist or wants to use it in a commercial project.

  • Because they are looking for music of a higher quality than the ones you can find for free.

  • Because in the medium in which the song appears it is not possible to attribute to the author. For example on the radio or television.

  • Because the person or company that buys the music wants to save a lot of trouble and be backed by a legal contract in case the artist decides in the future to change the licenses of their songs.

Why should I use Redwood Music over other royalty-free music websites?

The answer is quality. Our music is thoughtfully composed and meticulously recorded by outstanding professional musicians performing on real acoustic instruments. The majority of royalty-free music available online is created by layering generic loops and samples on laptop computers and sounds noticeably bland in comparison. The Redwood Music sound could be described as minimalist, earthy, natural, warm, sophisticated. You can purchase Ensemble STEM Packages allowing you to layer selected parts to achieve exactly the right texture for your project.

Does royalty-free music mean there is no copyright on the music?

No. Royalty-free and copyright are two different things. By purchasing our royalty-free music, Redwood Music is giving you a license to use our music in your project but we still own the rights to the music. The Terms and Conditions you agree to before purchasing our music explains the conditions of your license.

What if I get a copyright claim on my Youtube video/ Podcast/ Film etc?

Unfortunately, this can happen sometimes. All our music is registered and copyrighted. As such, there is a unique ISRC embedded in the metadata of each audio file that identifies Redwood Music as the copyright owner. There may be times where your use of our music is challenged. If this happens to you, there are several options to rectify this.

  • Present your proof of purchase of our license agreement to the party that is challenging your use of our music.

  • Present the ISRC codes of each of your purchases to the challenging party as proof of your license.

Can I sample or augment (remix) the royalty-free music I have purchased?

No you cannot augment or sample any of the tracks in any way without Redwood Music’s permission. Any sampling or remixing of our tracks breaches the Terms and Conditions you enter into when you purchase our royalty-free music.

What if I can’t find the right music in your royalty-free music library?

Redwood Music can also create custom-made tracks in our unique bespoke percussive styles for a fee. Please contact us to enquire about a quote.

How much does it cost to request custom tracks?

Unfortunately, this question is like asking ‘How long is a piece of string?’ Each project has varying demands which will impact the final costs involved. As a starting point, Redwood music charges $120/hr to compose, perform, record, edit, mix and master your custom tracks. How long each track takes to create depends on what is requested from the clients.

Can I use my custom tracks on anything I create?

Yes, a specific licensing contract will be entered into between Redwood Music and yourself to commission new music that will be for your use only in any form you like.

Do I have to give credit to Redwood Music when I use your music?

No. Because you are purchasing a license to use our royalty-free music, there is no need for attribution. If you DO want to credit Redwood Music, however, we would greatly appreciate it. Just use the following attribution:

Music composed, performed, produced and mixed by Steve Falk and Darren Hulcombe of Redwood Music. www.redwoodmusic.net
